The title of the three-part novel is given by the author as Göçebe. It was written in 1906 as Sonbahar Yıldızlan Altında, in 1909 as Hüzünlü Havalar, and in 1912 as Son Mutluluk. The events are told from the mouth of Knud Pedersen, whose real name is Hamsun.
