A family's life in a socialist republic in the Caribbean. The father absconds, the mother and three children emigrate to England, two sons stay behind. One of the latter is hit on the head and becomes a visionary, and might win the draughts championship. The story is told against the background of national elections, rigged by the republic's dictator.
