In fifteenth-century Scotland, in a St. Andrews famed for its university, its cathedral, and a game developed by shepherds to while away the hours, Caeril Patersone is competing for the title of champion golfer of the year, but he is forced to contend not only with his competition but also with a conniving financier, a sordid nobleman, and the gorgeous girl they have enlisted in their schemes.
